Some of Ven's favourite times was everyone piling into the Gummiship and travelling to another world as a group. Since his recon with Roxas, the Twilight Town group had visited Disney Town a few times with their passes and each time, they always started with ice cream. Today, even Aqua and Terra were joining them. It really felt like they were a really large and dysfunctional family. Especially when Aqua started mothering him. "Don't eat that too fast, Ven." She said as he grabbed his usual Double Crunch. He rolled her eyes at him and sat down by Roxas and Xion. Who did she think he was? He knew how to eat ice cream.
Almost as if to disobey her on purpose, he ate his ice cream a little too fast. And suddenly there was a short whirring sound and Ventus suddenly had six blinding ethereal swords of light appearing out of his back. Looking a little sheepish, he looked around the group and while Terra was trying not to laugh, he was failing and Ven managed to hear Aqua's "I told you so" before he was bombarded with questions by his other friends.

It was weird how traditions could grow up on you without realising it. This one was still pretty new, and few and far between enough that Roxas wasn't sure he could really call it a tradition yet, but - it was getting there. It was kinda nice, to wind down after the days that they spent focusing on the "wielders of an ancient and mysterious weapon" half of their lives by goofing off together in a brightly coloured town.
The icing on the cake, his memories supplied for him idly. Even after everything else that had happened since that moment, remembering the phrase still made him smile. That... had been the beginning of probably the two most important things in his life, after all.
Roxas wasn't really paying too much attention to what sounded like the usual kind of friendly bickering - he was too busy comparing notes with Xion on the Bueno Volcano. (Roxas still wasn't sure how he felt about the concept of spicy ice cream, but they'd also made a pact to try everything on the menu at least once.)
Except then there was a flash of light out the corner of his eye and Roxas was dodging out the way of a sword of light that definitely wasn't there a second ago, knocking his chair over as he did so.
"Whoa!" Now on his feet, Roxas stared at Ven open-mouthed. "Give me a little warning, Ven!"
What was that, anyway? Roxas could do some pretty neat stuff with light himself, but he generally didn't do it while he was eating ice cream. And why was Terra laughing? Was there something he was missing here?
Ven stepped back out of harms way and waited a moment for the command style to dissipate. They were great but if you had no enemies, they disappeared after a little while. Once the light swords had gone, he took a different seat. Still near Roxas and Xion but with his back to Aqua and Terra. While he could see Terra found it funny, and Ven had as well, he didn't need the told you so look from Aqua.
Turning back to Roxas, he looked apologetic. "Sorry Roxas. I guess I ate that too fast after all. I just love Double Crunch." He shrugged, and grinned sheepishly. "I'll not do that with the Milky Way."
Roxas exchanged a glance with Xion, and was relieved to see that she looked just as confused as he was. It was nice to have somebody else in the group who didn't have a clue what had just happened, given that Terra was still chuckling and Aqua was staring at Ven's turned back like she could psychically transfer her I'm-Not-Mad-I'm-Just-Disappointed speech into his brain.
"Uh. I think we're both missing something here, Ven," he said. "I've eaten plenty of ice cream, and nothing like that's ever happened to me."

With his back to Aqua and Terra, he couldn't order more ice cream but Chirithy brought him a Honeybunny knowing it wouldn't be as terrifying if he ate that one too fast. Ven almost missed Roxas's line as he was digging into it...slowly.
"Huh?" He hadn't expected questions. "I would say you're not eating them fast enough but I've seen you eat ice cream." He was trying to cheer himself up even if it was at Roxas's expense. "Didn't mean to hit you with it. I forget how long those swords can be. You okay?"
... There was definitely something he was still missing, huh. Roxas couldn't help sighing; why did this always happen? People seemed to totally forget that there were so many things he didn't get or hadn't come across yet. He rolled his eyes and stooped down to pick up his fallen chair, setting it right again.
"I'm fine, just confused. What does eating ice cream have to do with summoning whatever all that was?"
That's when Ven realised and sighed also. He did sometimes forget, especially when he spent time with Terra and Aqua, that Roxas didn't know all the cool things you could do with a Keyblade.
"It's just powered up magic. The ice cream just makes it easier to get that particular style. Haven't you noticed that Aqua and Terra never eat Double Crunch? Or how I don't eat Royalberry? They all set off a different style but only if you actually like the flavour."
He hoped he was make sense. It was harder to explain that he expected and he wasn't about to go ask Aqua right now.
"Powered up magic... you mean like a limit break?"
That was the only kind of powered up magic Roxas was familiar with, anyway. Except that limit breaking was, pretty much by definition, way more unpleasant than just eating ice cream and suddenly finding yourself all powered up. Maybe these "styles" or whatever it was Ven was talking about were more like what Sora could do with his Keyblade now?
