[ falling asleep only to wake up half way across the multiverse somewhere he'd never been before in his life was becoming a disturbingly regular part of Lyle's life. which was to say, it had now happened more than twice.
it hadn't even been a long nap this time, which was the baffling thing. he'd closed his eyes for what couldn't have been more than a few seconds, propped against the wall of the Ptolemy's cafeteria - and then the next thing he knew, he was on his back staring up at a bright purple sky.
weird-coloured skies could mean one of two things; either he was having an incredibly vivid dream, or he'd somehow become spatially displaced again. the weird thing was, it was more likely to be the latter.
that wasn't to say that he wasn't worried about it. he'd have been mad not to be. for one thing, this wasn't a spaceship; for another, there were no other people in sight, and for a third, he had no idea if he'd be able to get home this time. but still, it wasn't like he could afford to panic. all he'd have to do was look around, see if he could get a lay of the land and its alarmingly huge trees (at least, he thought they were trees) and if he ran into any locals, hope that they were friendly and run away sharpish if they weren't. it was, he thought as he heaved himself over a fallen log-like object about half an hour later, as simple as that.
